We are pleased to announce that the RE group has ratified the collective agreement. Just as we have completed our ratification process, the Treasury Board is concurrently engaging in its ratification process. This involves approval from Cabinet.

Dear RE member, Your RE Bargaining Team is pleased to announce that on June 7, 2019 they signed a tentative agreement to finish this round of collective bargaining. The Bargaining Team would like to thank all members for their support during this round of bargaining. We believe we have reached the best deal possible in what has been a challenging round of negotiations.

On June 7, we reached a tentative agreement with the Employer which will now be subject to a ratification process by members. The agreement includes improvements agreed to at the central table including economic increases for all members: 2% in 2018

Your RE bargaining team met with the employer on May 15-17, concurrently with central table negotiations. Our work was hampered by uncertainty about ongoing central table negotiations, and we continued to discuss mostly non-monetary issues.

The RE Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at The Hilton Garden Inn & Homewood Suites Ottawa Downtown, 361 Queen Street from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Ottawa time). Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided on site, followed by a Delegates’ dinner in the evening.

In crafting its proposal, the Institute recognized the priority the Government has placed on science and research, their inclusion in decision-making, and strengthening the support for fundamental research. We also recognized the priority it has placed on diversity, gender equity, and young Canadians.

As Researchers, it is essential to be able to participate in conferences, not only for our career progression, but to benefit the research program and the reputation of the Government of Canada. We must remember that conference attendance as well as scientific and professional society participation are not ‘training’ or a ‘perk’, but rather a critical part of how we do our work.

On Friday, April 13, 2018, at a celebration to mark the 176th anniversary of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), President Debi Daviau presented the PIPSC Gold Medal Award to Dr. John Percival to recognize his leadership and advancement of geoscience in Canada and internationally.
