Each year the Treasury Board undertakes the Public Service Employee Survey (PSES).

The 2019 Public Service Employee Survey (PSES) indicates very minor improvements in levels of workplace harassment and the promotion of psychological wellness. While the number of public servants impacted by Phoenix has increased.

PIPSC has joined eight Ontario unions representing more than 250,000 provincial public sector employees in a legal challenge against Bill 124. The bill violates Ontario workers’ Charter-protected right to free and fair collective bargaining.

3.6 million Canadians cannot afford to fill their prescriptions. Canada remains the only developed country with a universal public health insurance system that does not include universal coverage for prescription drugs.

It is with a profound sense of sorrow and regret that the Institute informs you of the passing of our friend and colleague, Ed Sweet. Ed passed away on November 17, 2019.  Ed’s commitment to Institute members was deep and unwavering. He will be missed.

Until 2017, members of the Public Service Pension Plan were provided with an annual pension statement.  As a result of the failed Phoenix pay system, the Pension Centre has been unable to issue these statements.

The public service is an important driver in the Canadian economy.

Ottawa, November 7, 2019 – The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) will hold its 100th Annual General Meeting on November 8 and 9 in Gatineau.

On October 8 and 9, 2019, the Mobilization team hosted two English and two French information session for PIPSC activists, in order to promote the new tools and resources available on the Action site.

This year marks our 100th anniversary as a union committed to leading progress.

We support having a variety of menstrual products available in federally regulated and federal government workplaces.

The creation of the Centre is an important step forward in this regard and an excellent example of what can be achieved when the Employer takes the time to work with our union and our members towards a common goal.

On June 18, 2019, PIPSC President Debi Daviau had the honour of addressing members of the Federal Black Employee Caucus (FBEC), an organization dedicated to combatting career obstacles in the public service such as racism, harassment, and under-representation.

Some disability payments will be retroactively increased as a result of new collective agreements.

The recent adoption in Québec of Bill 21, which is ostensibly aimed at imposing “secularism” on the province’s public service and on the people who receive them, is a disgrace and a blatant violation of civil liberties and basic human rights.

PIPSC welcomes the landmark win for current and former employees who experienced harassment, assault or discrimination while working at the Department of National Defence, Canadian Armed Forces or Non-Public Funds, Canadian Forces.

The Institute is saddened to report the untimely passing of our friend and colleague Christine Lemay. Christine’s commitment to Institute members was deep and unwavering. We will miss her very much.

Together with the Canadian Labour Congress and other unions, President Debi Daviau wrote to the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food calling for action to restore meat exports.

The International Labour Organization adopted of a Convention and Recommendation addressing violence and harassment in the world of work. This is a historic international articulation of the right of everyone to have a world of work free from violence and harassment.

Joined by a host of other Canadian union activists, PIPSC attended the world’s largest conference on gender equality, Women Deliver 2019.

The Canadian Labour Congress commits to protecting hard-won gains and to fill the gaps in access to sexual and reproductive health and rights in Canada, including abortion.
