The bargaining team would like to announce that the tentative agreement has been approved and ratified by the membership. Changes to the collective agreement will  not come into effect until the agreement is signed by the employer and the union.

This is to inform you that the Government of Canada has recently passed legislation to make September 30 a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On behalf of your Negotiating Team, I would like to update you on the status of negotiations for a new Collective Agreement.  

A number of MAGE members have contacted me to ask whether the Government of Manitoba’s recent travel restrictions on Order-in-Council appointees applies to us.

The Court of Queen’s Bench has ruled that Manitoba’s Public Services Sustainability Act violates the right to collective bargaining and is unconstitutional. This is a major victory for the province’s public servants.

Thank you to all the MAGE members for your comments and feedback on the Pallister government’s request to choose between 5 unpaid leave days for all members or undetermined layoffs of engineers. Based on your input and our presentation to the employer, they have agreed to increase the flexibility of the 5 unpaid days.

Despite the concerns we have raised, the Pallister government has decided to proceed with cost-saving measures related to the COVID-19 crisis.

We offered recommendations to the Government of Manitoba to ease the financial impact of the COVID-19 crisis in Manitoba. On April 20, 2020, a letter was sent to Mr. Brian Ellis, Assistant Deputy Minister of Labour Relations discussing appropriate cost-saving measures.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister announced earlier this week that he is considering temporary measures to reduce government spending on “non-essential” government workers in order to focus on front-line services during the pandemic. It's of paramount importance that public service jobs that Manitobans rely on remain secure.
