The Applied Science and Patent Examination Group (SP) Bargaining Team is proud to announce that you have voted in favour of a new collective agreement!

The deal will benefit nearly 8,500 SP members.

The agreement brings significant improvements to the SP collective agreement, refining benefits such as:

  • pay
  • parental leave
  • caregiving leave
  • wellness and harassment in the workplace
  • domestic violence leave
  • hours of work

It also includes special provisions for the transition of civilian members of the RCMP to the public service.

Once a tentative agreement was reached on May 25, 2019, we held town halls with our negotiators and over 32 Lunch and Learns across the country reaching thousands of members. Thank you so much for attending these important events during your vacation time and field season!

Implementation

The SP Group expects to sign the collective agreement in August 2019. The agreement will come into effect on the day of signing.

PIPSC and the Treasury Board Secretariat recognize the flaws of the Phoenix pay system. This is why – for this round only – PIPSC agreed to extend the implementation timeline of the collective agreement to 180 days. In exchange, each SP member will receive $400. The most complex cases may require up to 560 days where manual intervention is required.

If employees do not receive their retro pay during the 180-day implementation period, they will receive $50 on day 181, a second $50 three months later and at the end of each 3-month period thereafter up to a maximum of $450.

Some parental leave benefits might also take 180 days to implement after signing.

You will find all the information your new collective agreement in your Ratification Package.
