Annual General Meeting (AGM) Minutes
March 25, 2025, 5:00pm
Lion’s Head, Halifax, NS
1. Meeting was called to order at 5:10pm by Ashlee McLeod.
2. Welcome and Introductions: Ashlee welcomed the participants to the meeting. There were a total of 26 members in attendance.
3. Approval of Agenda. Moved by Alicia Graham and seconded by Jennifer Lake. Carried.
4. Adoption of the minutes of 2024 AGM. Everyone reviewed the minutes of the previous AGM. There were no questions, so Selena Glover motioned to accept, and Ashlee McLeod seconded. Carried.
5. Business arising from the minutes: Nothing identified.
6. Report of the President: Ashlee gave a report of the last year’s sub-group events, and spoke about the various departments represented by the sub-group. The SH Halifax Subgroup now has approximately 158 members and continues to grow. The main event in the last year was a Member Meet and Greet at Milestones. Our volunteer Sunday Supper event was unfortunately cancelled as it was double booked with another group, but there are plans to rearrange this for another date. Members were canvassed for activity ideas to do as a sub-group and the top two choices were a spa wellness day and another Meet and Greet. The spa day is tentatively scheduled for a date in May, and the Meet and Greet in the fall. There are now 13 stewards in our sub-group.
7. Annual Financial Report: An overview of the Financial Report was provided by the Treasurer, Jennifer Lake, including expenditures and current balance. Jennifer Cantwell motioned to accept, and Lisa Hatcher seconded. Carried.
8. Update from Elections Committee/Election of Officers: Elections process was overseen by James McGrath. A call for nominations for Vice President, Treasurer and 3 Members at Large took place.
Vice President: Position awarded to Cheryl Chisholm by acclamation. Treasurer: Position awarded to Karen MacIntyre by acclamation.
Members at Large : 5 members were nominated for 3 positions: Lisa Hatcher, Natacha Provost, Terri Perrier, Mohua Dasgupta, and Jennifer Lake. Voting was conducted by secret ballot. Successful candidates were Natacha Provost, Mohua Dasgupta, and Jennifer Lake.
9. Guest Speaker - David Sutherland, Part-Time VP PIPSC Board of Directors: Dave gave an overview of how he, as a member of the BOD over the years, has become involved with SH members on various committees and issues. He spoke of the importance of consultation with the Employer in all departments and used DND as an example. He spoke on Health and Safety of members in the workplace. He touched upon Work Force Adjustment and gave sources of more information. During a Q & A, questions were asked about contracting out, how to get involved in consultation, different working relationships in the workplace in various departments.
10. Promotional Items: Selena distributed toques and long sleeved t-shirts to the members at the AGM, purchased in part from money donated by the SH Group.
