2018 ATLANTIC REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE REPORT
Consultation – I continue to participate in various ad hoc meetings and conference calls with the AC Ainslea Cardinal to address issues as they arise. RUMC was held November24 2017. Dates for the next RUMC have been proposed for June 21 2018. I have been actively participating on the regional Employment Equity and Diversity Committee, and will be happy once the regions UMA committee has resumed meeting.
Atlantic Stewards Council – I was very pleased to see that time was allocated for AFS Executive representatives to meet with their stewards during the council agenda. This provided the opportunity to hear concerns directly from the stewards, as well as an opportunity raise awareness of national issues. The feedback around these events has always been positive and we will continue to encourage the region to make this time available in the future.
Union Management Summit- Union Management Summit was held in February 2018 this included the regional Assistant Commissioner, all Directors, and all sub group presidents, the regional IT president and myself as well as a day with the Atlantic UTE presidents. All agree this is a worthwhile event and AFS Atlantic feels it should be expanded to allow for more one on one time with the AFS presidents.
Sub-Group Visits – This year through AGM’s, information sessions, lunch and learns and ratification sessions, I was fortunate enough to visit all of the nine Sub-Groups. As always it’s an enjoyable experience to here members concerns and answer their questions.
Bargaining – The last round of bargaining was very frustrating and lengthy round, as we look to begin the next round lets hope the employer comes to the table with a clear mandate from day one and is there to truly bargain. Surveys as well as focus groups to develop demands are starting shortly and its imperative that all our members participate and have a voice in this determination of demands.
Thanks to all Sub-Group Presidents and stewards in the Atlantic Region for their continued dedication and hard work on behalf of members.
