To help our members make an informed choice on April 28, we have sent a non-partisan survey to Canada's major political parties. We asked the Liberal Party of Canada, the Conservative Party of Canada, the New Democratic Party, the Green Party of Canada, and the Bloc Québécois where they stand on the issues important to our members.
We are asking each party for their commitment to:
- protect public service jobs and conduct evidence-based program reviews rather than implementing mass layoffs
- establish fair and flexible remote work arrangements instead of rigid in-office mandates
- provide fair compensation for all employees affected by Phoenix pay system errors
- end costly outsourcing of government services and strengthen in-house capabilities
- stop outsourcing critical IT functions to foreign firms
- implement transparent country-by-country tax reporting for large corporations
- properly resource the CRA to ensure tax compliance by wealthy individuals and corporations
- allow federal scientists to speak publicly about their work
- maintain the office of the chief science advisor and scientific integrity governance
- increase investments in federal science, technology, research and development
- consult with unions and be transparent about AI implementation in federal workplaces
- establish independent AI regulation with formal appeal processes
- protect employee privacy from AI surveillance
- focus on human-centric AI policies that augment rather than replace workers
- implement equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility strategies
- act on the Privy Council Office's Call to Action on Anti-Racism, Equity and Inclusion
- preserve the current terms of the Public Service Pension Plan
The responses we receive will help PIPSC members understand where each party stands on these crucial issues that affect both our working conditions and the quality of services we provide to Canadians. We will share the responses when we get them.
