The Hamilton/Burlington Branch of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) congratulates Karon Miles on winning the Steward of the Year award for the Ontario Region.
Karon has worked her entire career in the CS classification at Environment and Climate Change Canada. She has been a PIPSC activist since the 1990's, starting as a member of the CS Group Executive. She was on the CS Group Bargaining Team for many years, fighting for a fair collective agreement for all CS's in PIPSC.
Karon served on the Ontario Regional Council and was part of the committee during her tenure. She is presently the Treasurer of the Hamilton-Burlington Branch, President of the CS Burlington Sub-group, has been a PIPSC steward since April 1997, the lead CS on the PIPSC National Consultation Team for Environment Canada, served as the employee co-chair on the Environment Canada Burlington OHS committee and employee representative on local and regional union-management consultation committees.
Karon has been an active steward for many years in the Burlington office of ECCC. She is the go-to person when members need help with any issues related to OHS, especially duty to accommodate. Karon has represented all members of PIPSC throughout her involvement in PIPSC. She has fought for women's rights at the workplace and has been an advocate for respect in the workplace. She has helped organize countless lunch and learns on many PIPSC workplace initiatives.
