 Regional Director’s Report – February 6, 2020 – Regional Executive Meeting

Home of the PIPSC’s Legacy Cup!

Period: December 5, 2019 - February 5, 2020

Congratulations BC/Yukon Region, we made a little bit of history.  At its December meeting, the PIPSC Board of Directors approved the 2019 BC/Yukon Regional Council’s Resolution to allow our provincial and territorial members to join their respective Federation of Labour.  It seems appropriate for us to join our regional houses of labour with this being our 100th Anniversary!

Happy 100th Anniversary PIPSC!

On February 6th your Regional Executive will be hosting a reception at our Regional Office to celebrate our 100th Anniversary.  Additional 100th Anniversary activities will be included between now and the national AGM in November.  Join in the celebration! Information on the 100th Anniversary can be found at: https://pipsc.ca/news-issues/in-2020-pipsc-is-celebrating-its-100th-anniversary

National

In January the Board of Directors held is annual strategic planning meeting and two day Board Meeting.  Updated information on the Strategic Plan will be now be sent to the Advisory Council for their input prior to coming back to the Board for final approval.  Of particular interest was an in depth report on the recent Membership Survey that was presented at the 2019 AGM held in November. Of note at the January meeting was the selection of members for the Board’s Standing Committees.  Thank you to everyone who put their names forward for these roles.

The Canadian Labour Congress will be hosting its annual Lobby Day on February 24th.  PIPSC is planning to hold its own Lobby Day in the spring of 2020, so stay tuned.

Region

Since the December report, the Region held a widely popular two-day Leadership Course in Vancouver (December 6 & 7).  We are looking for ways to bring this course back in the near future. We started our 2020 Community Outreach initiative in Whitehorse on January 21.  Activities included: an Information Table at the Hospital Cafeteria in the morning; a lunch and learn downtown at noon; and, a coffee & talk in the afternoon at the DFO office.  We finished off the evening at the Yukon Branch / YHC Group AGM in the evening. Next up is Kamloops on February 12 and Prince Rupert on March 3.

Notices for Advance Training in April, Basic Training in May and Regional Council in May are out, or will be coming out in the next few weeks.

As always, members are encouraged to plan events in their own workplace.  A 2020 BC/Yukon Region Key Activities Calendar can be found at: https://pipsc.ca/regions/bc-yukon/news/2020-bcyukon-regional-corporate-calendar
