75th ARC - Kentville Branch Report
May 25 - 26, 2018
The Kentville Branch has largely been inactive over the years due to lack of engagement and participation by members. The main factor had been a viable executive to lead the Branch following resignations, transfers and retirements.
The President, Muhammed Abudulai had been juggling the affairs of the Branch until he managed to assemble a new executive on June 09, 2016. It was not possible to organize any events/meetings in 2016; and into the first half of the year 2017 due generally to “member apathy.”
BRANCH MEETING: The new executive met on August 24, 2017, and had Greenwood Branch President, Mr. Marcel Journey as guest and mentor. Marcel proposed that due to our Branch’s small numbers, we attempt to hold some joint social events such as movie nights. Marcel also reviewed Branch boundaries and agreed to send a map of these boundaries.
The meeting also had a financial update by the Secretary Treasurer and a budget for the fiscal year was developed and a planned AGM in the fall.
AGM: This could not be executed in the fall as the Secretary/Treasurer was taken ill, among other reasons for failure to meet.
MOVIE NIGHT: The Greenwood and Kentville Branches held a joint movie night for its members on the night of February 26, 2018, at the Cineplex in New Minas. The event was held under the Better Together Program of PIPSC. The Kentville Branch had ten (10) members attend.
I will continue to work with the Greenwood Branch in the planning and hosting of joint social and other events for our members. The long term objective will be to engage and motivate more members to be involved with union activities.
