Vice President’s remarks
What a great 1st year! Being a new PIPSC executive it has been quite a learning curve!
From June 1 2018 until now it’s been all about learning. Learning how to fulfil this position, learning how to engage members and learning how to be a better representative for YOU!
From attending PIPSC executive training, becoming a steward and being a part of your bargaining team it has taught me the importance of solidarity, how much we need to trust and respect each other and how we must continue to work together for better collective agreements and workplace environments.
As your Vice-President, I have had the opportunity to meet our members in BC, QC, NS and NB over this past year. I look forward to meeting many more of you over the coming months. I again thank you for your support, and wish to meet as many of you as possible.
It has also been a pleasure to serve on both the AV Bargaining Committee and the PIPSC Strategic Bargaining committee. As a member of both committees I have had the opportunity to not only hear and support our own members but also the chance to support other members in other groups. It was very sobering to hear of the different circumstances our members face depending on where they are located across Canada and the department in which they work. Pay, workplace issues, lack of support etc. I have heard you and I will continue to work as best I can to help rectify these issues.
For the next year, As Sub-group committee chair I plan to work with our AV Regional representatives to grow the number of AV sub-groups across Canada. If your region is looking to form a sub-group or wants more information then please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I also plan, as Youth committee chair to establish an AV youth committee. I hope to make this a platform for our young members to get engaged and involved with the Institute.
