RE Group - Sacha Nandlall
Sacha Nandlall was born in September 1985 and grew up in Quebec City, Canada. He completed his undergraduate studies in electrical engineering at McGill University in December 2006. From January to July 2007, he spent 6 months on a placement with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he worked with the Ministry of Development and Economic Planning as a government data analyst.
In October 2007, Sacha became a doctoral student at the University of Oxford, earning the Ph.D degree in August 2011. He then moved to Columbia University and joined the laboratory as a postdoctoral research scientist for four years. He was also an instructor at Haverford College for a year, where he taught physics to blind students.
Sacha joined the public service as a Defence Scientist (DS) at DRDC-Ottawa in September 2016. He joined the executive of the PIPSC NCR RE Subgroup as a member-at-large in November 2016, and was then elected as its President in November 2017. Since then, he has helped co-organize several lunch-and-learn information sessions for members, including a workshop with accountants providing tax information to those affected by Phoenix.
Sacha has greatly enjoyed his involvement with PIPSC so far, and looks forward to engaging with RE group members, ensuring their voices are heard, and standing in solidarity with them on key issues.
