Dear Members;
You may have received some emails during the past few months from some retired members of the AV Halifax Sub-group.
In order to clarify the situation, we are informing our Halifax members that as per the AV Group By-Laws and Subgroup By-laws, Mr. T. Purchase and Mr. J. Rankin, are no longer eligible to be on the Halifax AV Sub-group executive and as such they have been removed from their respective positions. As per our Group and Subgroup By-Laws, only “Regular members shall be eligible to hold office”. This By-Law was passed at our June 2017 AGM and approved by PIPSC Board of Directors on August 12, 2017.
This By-Law change was also explained and emailed to all AV Group Members on August 1st, 2018.
The AV Group has received approval from PIPSC President Debi Daviau and the Board of Directors (BOD) to proceed with a SGM for the Halifax Sub-group in October. The purpose of the SGM is to explain to our Halifax members how the situation got to this point and our way forward. Elections for the positions of President and Vice-President will also be held at the SGM. Only Regular members are eligible to run for a position.
PIPSC Acting Vice-President, BOD member and Chair of the PIPSC Bylaws and Policy Committee, Nancy McCune, will be our Keynote Speaker to explain to our members the reasons behind the SGM and also answer any questions members may have.
As your Vice President, and on behalf of our Group members, we are moving forward to represent our AU-CO -PG members in Halifax.
Let me state the main goal of Sub-groups as per our Sub-group model constitution:
"The aim of the Sub-Group shall be to act within the jurisdiction of the Sub-Group to further the professional interests of its members, to protect the status and standards of their profession and to formulate and express the views of the members on matters affecting them. The Sub-Group Executive shall inform the national AV Group Executive of the concerns of the Sub-Group relative to collective bargaining."
The AV Group is working hard to establish and ensure a great relationship with our Halifax sub-group and we will continue to work hard for all our members.
We would also like to acknowledge the service of Mr. Purchase and Mr. Rankin, and hope they continue to support PIPSC initiatives through membership in the Retired Members Guild.
The AV Group will also be providing a Collective Bargaining Update to our Halifax Members and we wish you can attend, as important bargaining sessions with the Treasury Board will be starting in September.
A Special Annual General Meeting invitation will be emailed to all AU-CO-PG members in Halifax in the days ahead.
On behalf of the PIPSC Executive and Group Executive,
James Bright
Vice President and Sub-group Coordinator
