AV - BC/Yukon Regional Representative Report
The BC/Yukon is composed of over 250 members and currently have two active Subgroups serving the Vancouver area and North-Central Vancouver Island region. The BC/Yukon region is also supported by 6 stewards located in Victoria, Vancouver, Nanaimo, and Whitehorse.
Good collaboration and exchange of information is taking place between the two existing subgroups and initial discussions have been taking place this year with Victoria Steward on the potential creation of a Subgroup to service the Greater Victoria region.
In addition to Steward appreciation events, such as the Canada 150th celebratory event and a movie event this past January (in collaboration with the Vancouver Branch), the AV memberships also promoted, through its network, the Public Service Employees Rally in Vancouver to Fix Phoenix with our PIPSC President.
A lunch & Learn was delivered in Whitehorse to provide update on tentative Agreement and discuss the creation of a potential Subgroup in that region.
For the upcoming year, I will be participating at the upcoming BC Yukon Regional Council this June and will initiate the coordination for lunch & learns events. Of note, a lunch and learn event with our AV group representative, has been proposed for late Spring to provide an update on the Employee Wellness Support Plan (EWSP) committee, the progress of our negotiations with Treasury Board (to prepare for our Collective Agreement expiry date of June 21, 2018) and to provide update on our current sick leave as per the MOA in your collective agreement.
I would like to invite members from the BC/Yukon Region to continue their involvement and contact me to discuss how we can better support our members.
