Fund the Institute’s Strike Fund (Resolution passed at 2017 ORC was not debated at the 2017 PIPSC AGM

because the Ontario Regional Executive submitted the resolution late)

Whereas many of the Collective bargaining agreements will be expiring in 2018,

And whereas employers view strike mandates with apprehension,

And whereas the Institute has recorded a value of $8 million in the Institute’s Strike Fund, but the Strike Fund itself does not have actual funds in it,

 And whereas all of PIPSC surplus funds are held in a central account and the Strike Fund is owed the money

 And whereas given the dues increase of 2017, this is the opportunity to put the funds in the Strike Fund that it is owed,

Therefore, be it resolved, that the Ontario Regional Council direct the Ontario Regional Executive to sponsor the following resolution (including the preamble) at the 2018 PIPSC AGM:

Therefore, be it resolved, that the Strike Fund be funded from current membership dues at a rate of $5 per month per member,

And, further that, the Strike Fund’s assets be kept separate from other Institute assets and that it operate as a fund, with the income earned on the assets remaining in the Strike Fund
