At the request of the AFS Group Elections Committee as per PIPSC By-Law 17.3.2.1, the PIPSC National Elections committee is conducting the 2024 AFS Group elections to the National AFS Group Executive.
According to AFS Group By-Law 7.5.1, in 2024, being a year before a year divisible by three, elections will be held for AFS Group President and Vice-President for a three (3) years term.
As per AFS Group By-Law 7.4.10: Successful candidates will take Office on July 1.
Only Regular members in good standing are eligible. The AFS Group By-Laws are available on the PIPSC website. These By-Laws include:
By-Law 7.3.4: “A member cannot be a candidate for more than one (1) Office in the same election.”
By-Law 7.3.5: “Because all members of the Group and Sub-Group Executive are required to consult with the employer on behalf of the members, then, to be a candidate or remain an Officer, the person must be a member and must be or become a Steward.”
By-Law 7.3.6: “A member of an AFS Sub-Group Executive is eligible for election as a member of the AFS Executive however, upon election, must immediately resign their AFS Sub-Group Executive position in accordance with By-Law 6.2.1.”
AFS Group By-Law 6.2.1: Any member of the AFS National Executive shall not be a member of an AFS Sub-Group Executive.
Notes:
- The duties of the AFS Group President are listed in AFS By-Law 6.10.11.
6.10.11.1 The President shall call and preside at all meetings of the Group and of the Group Executive and shall present to the Annual General Meeting a report on Group activities.
6.10.11.2 To attend meetings of the various committees of the Group or the Institute as necessary.
6.10.11.3 To perform any related duties that may be necessary as the chief elected Officer of the Group.
6.10.11.4 To file an annual report to the Institute at the end of each calendar year.
6.10.11.5 To serve as Chair of the Negotiating team.
- The duties of the AFS Group Vice-President are listed in AFS By-Law 6.10.12.
6.10.12.1 The Vice-President shall assist the President in the performance of his duties, and in the absence of the President, perform the duties of that position.
6.10.12.2 To be responsible for the Group By-Laws and Regulations.
6.10.12.3 To be responsible for advising the President, as required, on parliamentary procedure.
6.10.12.4 Other duties as determined by the President and approved by the Group Executive.
- All AFS National Executive members require a significant personal time commitment to perform their duties. This regularly includes unpaid time for meetings on evenings and weekends.
- Personal (non-work) email addresses and phone numbers are published to the AFS Group members for all AFS National Executive members.
- Please be sure to thoroughly review the Guidelines for Group Elections. Since these elections are being conducted by the National Elections Committee, all references to Elections committee apply to the National Elections Committee.
The official nomination form below shall be completed accurately. Instructions are on the nomination form. The Elections Committee shall scrutinize the nominations for eligibility. Only scanned copies of completed nomination forms (.pdf files) and biographies in MS Word format (.doc or .docx) will be accepted.

The deadline for receipt of nomination documents, by email, is May 1, 2024, at 17:00 Ottawa time.
Voter’s Kits will be available on or before May 15, 2023
The vote will officially open May 15, 2024, at 09:00 Ottawa time.
The vote will close June 6, 2024, at 12:00 (noon) Ottawa time.
