Meeting of the Executive of the Hamilton AFS Subgroup and the Hamilton Branch - December 6, 2022
Montana’s, Paramount location
Executive In Attendance: Branch: Tony D’Amico, Lucy Bourak, Peter Cloidt, Jaspreet Gill, Zaigham Butt, Chris Bozak, Heather Geddes, Paul Gasparin Subgroup: Ken Bald, Ward Cluff, Joe Stanziani, Roxane McMillan, Allan Laaksonen, Steve Budz. Our meeting was at Montana’s on Paramount Road 5:30 pm.
1. Jackets for attending the AGM
This is the first meeting with our new Branch executive. Ward said that there were 3 people that paid and did not show up for the AGM. We said we would not give the 2 of them their Union jackets but we changed our minds because they are already bought and stored. We agreed to give them the jackets anyways but will not refund their deposits for dinner.
2. Money in the bank
Between the Branch & Subgroup, we have $X and we don’t need to spend any before year end. Do we want to donate some to the food banks? Heather Geddes motioned to donate $X to Hamilton Food Share. Paul Gasparin 2nd’d the motion and it was carried.
3. Next year events
We spoke about having an event next year like hockey or a beer buy at a brewery or winery. We spoke about Collective Arts. Roxane McMillan motioned to organize it in the new year and Tony D’Amico 2nd it. Motion carried. Roxane will organize an event or 2 next year.
4. Bargaining
Tony D’Amico spoke about the current bargaining. He said that they have agreed on some non-monetary items. There were 20 changes made. These changes are online.
We are going to speak with other unions (the internal auditors at Treasury Board Union and the SP Union (UTE)) so we can compare & coordinate our asks for salary increases.
PIPSC would like to see a minimum 5% increase in salary for the first year.
5. New Stewards
Tony D’Amico solicited for anyone interested in becoming a new steward.
6. YPN Young Professionals Network
Ontario Region is looking for YPN people to be on the committee and Zaigam Butt & Jaspreet Gill said they were interested.
PIPSC recommends having 1 YPN event per year and there is extra funding given for that. We’ll wait for Zaigam and Jaspreet to get back to us when they have a meeting.
7. UMC Union Management Consultation
Ward Cluff spoke of UMC. Instead of 1 UMC, Ward Cluff will be part of 7 or 8 because of OROR. As well, we need lists of our members. Management is not permitting us to post anything online like bulletin boards we have in the office. Management won’t provide local information sessions for new members or provide links to local branch and subgroup executives. Region will have to raise the issue, as not many people come into the office.
8. Business insurance
Recommends staff get supplementary business insurance when we start travelling.
9. Building renovations
10th floor at The Standard Life Building – this floor will no longer be used, and these staff will be relocated to 4th floor of 55 Bay St N. Hamilton.
They are setting up the 7th floor as a collaboration floor for teams. This will be in 2024-2025.
Meeting finished at 7:50pm.
