The Here for Canada campaign is a powerful new national initiative to champion the value of public services and the workers who deliver them every day. In the face of growing public sector cuts and political pressure, this campaign is built to push back — with the voices, data, and public support needed to create change.
Earlier this year, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne launched a directive for 7.5%, 10%, and 15% spending cuts – the most devastating attack on federal public services in a generation. Both jobs and entire programs could be on the chopping block.
Worse, they’re doing it without a budget, without a vote in Parliament, and without a shred of transparency or democratic accountability. No debate. No public input. No consultation with unions to date. Just a backroom directive.
These cuts are on top of the workforce adjustments already being rolled out across departments as part of the government’s Budget Refocusing Exercise. It’s cuts on top of cuts.
That’s why PIPSC is launching Here for Canada: to protect good jobs and reinvest in public services, to build lasting public and political support and to strengthen union bargaining power.
This campaign combines research, media, and mobilization to shift public opinion and influence policy:
- Deep public opinion research to guide strategy and messaging – with polling currently in the field and focus groups being conducted
- Nationwide ad blitz sharing powerful stories and data that can shape public opinion
- Targeted lobbying with tailored briefs and direct outreach
- Strong media presence with op-eds, interviews, and reports
- Digital campaign hub to inform and engage the public
- Social media surge with shareable content and testimonials
- Member updates to keep members informed, engaged, and ready to act
Here for Canada is more than a message — it’s a campaign to protect what matters. PIPSC members, like all members of the federal public service, are the quiet force behind Canada’s strength: dedicated professionals who protect the health, safety, and economic security of Canadians by building the programs and systems we all rely on – especially when times get tough.
Together, we’re taking a stand for strong public services and a stable, more resilient Canada – because weakening the institutions that hold this country together is no way to protect it.
