Calling all Stewards and Prospective Stewards!
This message is to invite interested employees who are members of PIPSC to submit a letter of interest if you would like to be considered for a position on the PIPSC National Research Council of Canada (NRC) Consultation Team. You are required to be a PIPSC Steward which is well documented here: http://www.pipsc.ca/labour-relations/stewards and is an easy process to follow.
There are various roles as a Steward and you can choose “how” you would like to participate. You can be very involved and active or join and focus solely on work with the Consultation Team.
We require Stewards to be on the National consultation team which meets quarterly with upper management and also sits on working groups and special committees.
Scientific Integrity policy development will require stewards
Promotion criteria and advocacy for members developing promotion cases
Diversity committee requires representation
National Committee on Occupational Safety and Health requires representation
Local Labour Management consultation committees need to be established in all workplaces and require stewards.
A steward is required to assist members with Phoenix issues and interact with our pay and benefits division to resolve issues quickly.
Plus there are committees that are developed as working groups that require PIPSC representation.

If you are interested in making real change and being an active part of Management and Member discussions you can become a PIPSC Steward and join the Consultation Team.
We need more stewards at NRC who can help members and are motivated to participate. It is a rewarding volunteer position and very beneficial to an individual in developing and refining skills such as: listening, negotiating, increasing awareness of the laws, policies and other guiding principles within the government workplace. - A brief statement outlining the reasons why you are interested.
- Willingness to become a Steward.
- The statement should also include a resume of any union/volunteer experience, in particular your experience related to formal consultation.
- The letter of interest must be submitted to my attention at the latest December 15, 2018.
