PIPSC National Consultation – Elections for Regional Representatives of the CSC

Dear stewards,

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) National Consultation Team, in accordance with the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) Policy on Consultation, is seeking a regional consultation president to represent PIPSC at national consultation meetings. The following regional position is available to stewards from the respective region:

Québec Regional Representative

The responsibilities of a regional representative of the CSC/PIPSC Consultation Team are as follows:

  • Act as the Institute’s official representative on various advisory committees
  • Behave professionally and respectfully during the meeting
  • Stay informed about the Institute’s positions on employer policies.
  • Seek input from Institute members and staff on issues of concern
  • Ensure that issues of concern are included on meeting agendas
  • Ensure that unresolved problems at one level are referred to the next level
  • Ensure that members are kept informed of discussions that took place during consultation meetings
  • Consult Institute staff on technical issues requiring advice
  • Maintain bilateral communications with the staff representative on agenda items
  • Request travel authorization from the team president for consultation activities
  • Report to the rest of the team, including the staff representative, after the meetings and distribute any documentation provided
  • Be available to travel to Ottawa at least four times a year
  • Organize and schedule a Regional Consultation Committee for regional issues with management on a quarterly basis or as needed
  • On a quarterly basis for national union-management meetings, in hybrid or in-person format
  • The members of the National Team are also appointed to various national consultation committees. To be present, individuals must participate in meetings via videoconference or in person.
  • The term of office of the representative shall be two years.

If you wish to be nominated, please write to the president of the CSC National Consultation, Gary Desbiens, sending him your resume to let us know about your experience in union activities and consultation. The deadline for nominations is May 15, 2025.

The candidates’ resumes will be sent to all union stewards in the respective regions, who will be asked to express a preference among the candidates. Their preferences will be compiled and forwarded to the PIPSC Executive Committee, which will make a decision and appoint an individual, taking into account the comments of the National Consultation Team and CSC stewards.
