DISCUSSION / NOTES

Call to Order/

Opening remarks

Meeting called to order at 12:21 PM. Opening remarks by Raj. This is the fourth meeting of the executive this year. Thanks to Don Burns for acquiring $750 extra funding from the national RMG Executive, and to Rob MacDonald, PIPSC BC-Yukon Regional Director, for another $750 from “Better Together” of PIPSC.

Raj also brought up an issue related to the guest list for our AGM. After some discussion, Tom Chang moved that we invite to our AGM both the president of the  Vancouver Branch and the president of the Vancouver CRA Branch. MSC

Minutes of previous meeting

Copies of minutes of the executive meeting held last September 26 were available for all. Wayne mentioned the draft review process and that the format of the minutes document might change if easier for HQ to post to the PIPSC web site. No objections raised. Minutes accepted without changes. MSC

Don Burns

Rob MacDonald was unable to attend and he sent his regrets. Don Burns agreed to report on national PIPSC as well the national RMG:

  • RMG Chapter presidents are to attend the next AGM of the national RMG.
  • The chapter presidents are also expected to be able to attend the next national PIPSC AGM, which is held following the RMG AGM.
  • As the next PIPSC AGM the 100th, extra attendees are expected, and the choice of venue may be an issue.
  • At the last AGM, a move to create “Professionals Canada” was rejected. This would have included in PIPSC membership professionals who are not part of a union.
  • Don attended AGM’s for the Victoria and Fraser Valley chapters. These chapters are struggling for members.
  • Don suggested that we send a representative to COSBC, the Council of Senior Citizens’ Organizations of BC. The BC government consults with this group on seniors’s issues.
  • Tom Chang suggested that national RMG could look into a discount for PIPSC members with NAFR. Don to follow up.
  • Lyle mentioned that Sun Life coverage does not apply to some countries. Travelers should take note.

Financial Statements

Barbara presented the financial statements. Statements approved. MSC

Recently received $750 funding cheque to be included in the next period.

Next AGM

Raj suggested Tuesday, April 21, 2020. General discussion about location. Lyle to follow up.

Adjournment

Meeting adjourned at 2:09 PM.
