RE Group - Matthew MacLeod
I have proudly served as a member of the Group Executive for the past five terms, representing RE Group Members across the country – for a significant portion of that as President. I also served on the bargaining team that made breakthroughs on several fronts last round (although I know many of us are still frustrated with the unacceptably slow pace of implementation), and currently am chair of the new bargaining team. As we continue to see turnover in committee members, I look forward to providing continuity in the coming years. Similarly, as one of the youngest members of the committee and as a new parent, I continue to represent the voice of a new generation of REs, at a time when our sick leave, pension and retirement benefits are always under scrutiny.
Having become President during some of the toughest times our Group has faced, and then having the pleasure of being on the working committee that finally published a model scientific integrity policy for the Government, I am looking forward to continuing to be a part of what will hopefully be better times ahead. However, we are certainly not out of the woods, and am keenly aware that we need to remain focused on our goals.
Outside of the Executive, I am an alternate on the DND Consultation Team, and served as union co-chair of the Union-Management Consultation Team for Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) for five years. I have been a Steward for more than ten years, and have been a Subgroup President, as well as Secretary of two different Branches. As part of DRDC CORA, I have worked at DRDC Ottawa, National Defence Headquarters, the Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre in Halifax, and am now back in Ottawa at the Joint Operational Headquarters.
