License fees

The current CFIA-VM Collective Agreement now requires that the employer reimburse VMs for the full amount of the applicable veterinary license fee. This includes registration to the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) when it is required. The steps for reimbursement are as follows:

1. Pay your fees and wait until you receive your receipt of payment from the licensing body.

2. Download CFIA form #5360 and complete it.

3. Print the form, sign and date it, and submit it to your Level 5 manager with your invoice and proof of payment attached.

Pay your fee and request reimbursement ASAP as CFIA has a deadline for submission.

Continuing Education

Your VM Group executive wants you to be aware that our Collective Agreement allows us to take leave to attend conferences, seminars, and workshops in order to fulfill our veterinary license continuing education requirements. This leave is taken as per Article C16.03, and it is code 620, Examination and Career Development. This leave must be submitted to a Level 5 manager for approval. The continuing education does not have to have anything to do with your CFIA work, it only has to satisfy the following statement from the Collective Agreement: “to participate in workshops, short courses or similar out-service programs to keep up to date with knowledge and skills in their respective fields”.

Any members with questions about license fee reimbursement or leave for continuing education should contact a VM steward.
