Candidate for Vice-President (Part-Time)
David Chu
(Regular member)
Dear Members, I hope you and yours are safe and well.
I am a commerce officer with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As a PIPSC Steward for over 18 continuous years, I have represented members, defended our rights, battled injustices and advocated for democratic treatment in both the workplace and community.
My Commitment:
- I will ensure that the Institute is being fiscally responsible with our union dues.
- I will provide leadership in the next cyclical review for a comprehensive set of proposals to improve the health care plan, including expanded coverage for vision care, dental care and paramedical services.
- I will provide leadership for occupational health and safety, mental wellness, gender equality, scientific integrity, tax fairness, contracting-out, de-professionalization of our jobs, protecting pensions, our role in the climate crisis, truth and reconciliation, supporting the LGBTQ2S+ community, racialized worker and youth.
- I will provide leadership on pushing back on any federal or provincial government austerity agenda by advocating for an economic recovery based on job security, career development and training, and improved public services.
Teamwork is key for me, and my approach is based on negotiation rather than confrontation. I strongly believe that my experience and skills will help me make a positive contribution to the Institute. There is no replacement for experience and hard work.
Leadership Highlights:
- PIPSC Human Rights in the Workplace Committee (2007 to 2009)
- Professional Recognition and Qualifications Committee (2015)
- PIPSC Advisory Council (2013 to 2018)
- ACOA National Consultation Team President (2013 to 2018)
- Atlantic Regional Training Committee (2007 to 2008)
- Atlantic Regional Representative, CP Group (2015 - 2021)
- Chair Communications Committee, CP Group (2017 - 2018)
- Subgroup Coordinator, CP Group (2021)
- Member-at-Large, CP Group Bargaining (2015 - 2017)
- Member-at-Large, CP Group Domestic Violence (2018 - 2019)
- President, Halifax CP Subgroup (2015 - 2017, 2021 - present)
- Vice-President, Halifax Branch (2004 - 2005)
It will be an honor and a privilege to serve you for the next three years.
I thank you in advance for your support.
