The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), a national union representing over 70,000 professionals and scientists across Canada, is seeking an Systems Administrator - DevOps for its National Office.

What can I expect to do in this role?
Under the direction of the Director, Information Technology (IT) and Program Management and reporting to the Manager, Information Technology (IT) Operations and Program Management, the Systems Administrator - DevOps ensures the upkeep and continuous optimal operation of the Institute’s IT systems.
The position is responsible for planning, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and leveraging advanced technologies. The position ensures that Institute systems are functional, up-to-date, secure, and user-friendly while facilitating and supporting the ongoing enhancement and transformation of these systems.
Major responsibilities include:
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for current and new technologies and respond to service requests from internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with IT staff to ensure efficient operation of systems and continuous improvement and delivery of products and processes.
- Oversee cyber security and information security implementations including intrusion prevention and platform vulnerabilities.
- Develop deployment and automation tools to manage a growing number of services.
- Provide guidance to team members and facilitate their adoption and integration of IT DevOps best practices.
- Manage server/storage deployments and implement upgrades.
- Provide advanced solution design including server and disk space provisioning.
- Install, configure, monitor, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and backup systems to ensure functionality, data consistency, security, and usability.
- Identify potential issues in system performance and implement solutions.
- Develop, maintain and ensure adherence to IT policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for system use that reflect good practices, including system configurations, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Research and recommend new technology and best practices based on business requirements with regards to information technologies, growth and transformation to enhance process efficiency, improve user satisfaction, increase security and/or reduce cost.
- Monitor system resource utilization and trending and undertake capacity planning.
- Collaborate with other IT staff and key stakeholders to design, develop, maintain and support new technologies.
- Participate in forecasting and planning system upgrades to meet business needs.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams assigned to special projects and work collaboratively with employees in other sections.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Competencies sought:
- Experience leading work on technology based efforts to achieve desirable outcomes working with both the technical team and business customers
- Self-starter and can assess needs and then do research to determine appropriate solutions considering all affected technology
Education / Experience:
- University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Administration or equivalent.
- Five (5) to eight (8) years’ experience including two (2) to three (3) years’ experience implementing advanced solutions (e.g. Cloud computing).
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in both official languages (French and English) is an asset.
Skills and experience required:
- knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2);
- knowledge of cloud-based technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes;
- extensive Knowledge of G Suite collaboration platform;
- extensive experience with Linux and bash scripting;
- experience in a user-focused technical-support environment;
- self-motivated and initiative to get tasks completed and issues resolved;
- demonstrated ability in system analysis, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting;
- ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing; ability to deal with competing priorities; and good customer service and interpersonal skills.
Assets:
- knowledge of Microsoft-based Identity and Access Management / Device Management solutions, particularly Azure AD and Intune
- knowledge of Cisco network solutions, including Meraki.
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $98,519 - $123,148 (G6)
