Letter of Support for the Members of the University of Ottawa Information Technology Professionals (UOITP)

We write to you today to inform you that CUPE 2626 is pledging its full support to the members of the UOITP in their bargaining and mediation efforts with the University.

The members of CUPE 2626 rely on the professional IT support provided by the UOITP members every day. IT workers support academic and support staff, the administration, and students; they are the foundation of a well-functioning university.

The concessions sought by the management of the University, however, put that IT support at grave risk. Also, by threatening to lock out the UOITP if they do not agree to the concessions, the University shows their disregard for staff and students alike.

The university sector as a whole faces great challenges. The answer is not, however, to undercut the quality of our professional staff and outsource it to the lowest bidder. We urge you to seek a fair and equitable settlement with the UOITP.

In solidarity,

Patrick Ladouceur
President of CUPE 2626
